Frequently Asked Questions
How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?
Having a doula at your birth does not "replace" your partner. Far from it! My goal as your doula is to help your partner best support you; I want to be on your partner's team! During our prenatal visits, I'll work with you and your partner to determine each of your comfort levels, and work with you to establish a "game plan" as to how I can best support your partner as the two of us support you!
What are your interactions with medical staff like?
It will always be my primary goal to foster a relationship of trust between you and your provider. I make it a point to treat all medical staff with respect and professionalism. If I feel a care provider is acting inappropriately, I will go through proper channels to report the behavior, but I will never intentionally, through my words or actions, turn a client "against" a provider. I will gently remind you to speak up if you or your partner have a concern or question about something any of the medical staff are doing or saying, but I will not speak for you, nor will I speak or act in a way that undermines what the medical staff are suggesting or doing.
Do you perform any physical examinations?
No. I am not medically trained, and it is outside my scope of practice to perform any medical examinations.
